(A.D. 1228) Emperor Frederick II of the Holy Roman Empire, after being excommunicated for not supporting previous crusader campaigns, achieves unexpected success in his self-initiated Sixth Crusade negotiating without any major military conflict the transfer of Jerusalem, Nazareth, and Bethlehem to the Crusaders for a period of 10 years.
