Samuel Hopkins (A.D. 1721–1803) New England Puritan pastor and theologian; student and rigorous advocate of Jonathan Edwards’s theology. He was a leading figure in the development of New Divinity theology, a form of Calvinism which was influential in the Second Great Awakening.
