HISTORY of Christian Theology

An ancient Jewish sect which was generally composed of the upper socio-economic class of Judea. Sadducees emphasized the primacy of the written Mosaic Law and temple worship, rejected the need to follow oral tradition, and denied the existence of spirits and the resurrection of the dead. Sadducees believed in complete free will, while Pharisees leaned emphasized a belief in the sovereignty and foreknowledge of God.
