The capacity to logically and consciously establish facts and prioritize values. Reason is often considered to be a distinctly human capacity. Christianity considers it to be a unique gift to humanity, that through reason humanity is made in God’s likeness. Even though the debate between reason and tradition had existed in Christianity for centuries, it took on new life and prominence during and after the Reformation in the 16th Century.
