Karl Rahner (A.D. 1904–1984) German Jesuit theologian, known especially for his concept of the “supernatural existential,” a major theological influence at the Second Vatican Council and subsequently in liberal Catholic theology. He sought to reorient neo-scholastic theology of the 20th century by grounding it in Kantian philosophy.
