HISTORY of Christian Theology

Originally it was a term applied to Puritan ministers who did not conform to the Anglican Church practices and ceremonies that were mandated by the Act of Uniformity under the Elizabethan Settlement. The label later applied to all Protestants who dissented from the state church.
