HISTORY of Christian Theology

John Newton (A.D. 1725–1807) was an Anglican clergyman, author of the hymn Amazing Grace, and prominent supporter of abolition. He started his career as a sailor in the Royal Navy, and later worked in the slave trade. A process of religious conversion eventually caused him to advocate abolition.
