(A.D. 1881–1937) John Gresham Machen was a New Testament scholar in America, and he served as Professor of New Testament at Princeton Seminary between 1906 and 1929. He led a resistance against liberal theology encroaching into Princeton, which he ultimately lost. He established other conservative institutions which continue today. Machen was a Presbyterian minister, New Testament scholar and advocate for the Fundamentalist side of the Fundamentalist-modernist controversy, most notable is his book Christianity and Liberalism (A.D. 1923).
