Nicolaus Copernicus (A.D. 1473–1543) was a Polish Renaissance-era mathematician and astronomer who made an early contribution to the Scientific Revolution by formulating a model of the universe with the Sun at the center with planets revolving around it, rather than with the Earth at the center.
