(c. A.D. 1264–1314) Clement V was Bishop of Rome and Pope from A.D. 1305 until his death in 1314. Pope Clement V abolished the Knights Templar and permitted their persecution and execution by secular authorities, principally the King of France. He also moved the Papacy from Rome to Avignon.
