HISTORY of Christian Theology

Comes from the Latin word bulla for “bubble” or “boss” and was used official papal documents that published the pope’s decision regarding some issue such as Pope Leo X’s condemnation of Martin Luther’s teachings as heresy. This word was used because of the distinctive manner in which the document is sealed or embossed.
