HISTORY of Christian Theology

(c. A.D. 1230–1303) Boniface VIII was Pope from A.D. 1294 until his death in 1303. He became Pope upon the resignation of Pope Celestine V, which caused some consternation, even resulting in some battles. Boniface VIII pushed papal claims to temporal and spiritual authority further than many of his predecessors.
